Gleiche Chancen und ein sorgenfreies, erfülltes und freies Leben für alle Kinder

Auch wenn Kinderarmut in Österreich nicht sichtbar ist, existiert sie. Im drittreichsten Land der EU leidet mehr als jedes fünfte Kind unter Armut und Ausgrenzung. Das sind über 353.000 Kinder und Jugendliche. Über 78.000 Kinder können sich keine gesunde und ausgewogene Ernährung leisten. Mehr als die Hälfte aller armutsgefährdeten Kinder leben in zu kleinen, überbelegten Wohnungen, viele davon in feuchten oder schimmligen Zimmern.

Armutsbetroffene Kinder leiden häufiger unter chronischen Krankheiten und psychischen Problemen. Sie teilen die Sorgen ihrer Eltern und haben Angst davor, die Wohnung zu verlieren oder dass der Strom abgedreht wird. Sie haben häufig weniger Freund*innen, Wünsche und Träume, weniger Bildungs- und damit weniger Zukunftschancen.

Wir müssen und können das ändern! Die Vision der Volkshilfe ist ein gutes Leben für alle. Eine inklusive Gesellschaft, in der soziale Infrastruktur bereitgestellt wird, die materiellen, sozialen, gesundheitlichen und kulturellen Bedürfnisse von Kindern und Jugendlichen ernst genommen werden und sie ihre Wünsche und Träume verwirklichen können.

Die Volkshilfe hat ein Modell der Kindergrundsicherung entwickelt, das allen Kindern zugute kommt. Diese monatliche Teilhabesicherung ist nach Einkommen gestaffelt. Die Einführung einer Kindergrundsicherung ist ein wesentlicher Beitrag zur Bekämpfung von Armut. Durch eine Beschlussfassung der Kindergrundsicherung im Nationalrat kann Österreich als weltweit erstes Land Kinderarmut abschaffen und die Vision Realität werden lassen.

Aus suchtpräventiver Sicht unterstützen wir die Forderung der Volkshilfe nach einer Kindergrundsicherung, um allen Kindern gleiche Chancen und ein sorgenfreies, erfülltes und freies Leben zu ermöglichen.
