Psychische Gesundheit von Schüler*innen verschlechtert

Eine österreichische Studie zum Gesundheitszustand zeigt, dass sich die psychische Gesundheit junger Menschen durch die Corona-Pandemie weiter verschlechtert hat.

Besonders Mädchen stark belastet

Die HBSC-Studie (Health Behaviour in School-aged Children) ist die größte europäische Kinder- und Jugendgesundheitsstudie. Die Ergebnisse sind nach zwei Jahren Corona-Pandemie besonders interessant. Sie bestätigen das Bild, das andere Studien, schon gezeigt haben: Die psychische Gesundheit der jungen Menschen hat sich weiter verschlechtert. Besonders die Mädchen sind psychisch stärker belastet als die Burschen. 29 Prozent der Mädchen und 17 Prozent der Burschen machen sich häufig Sorgen um ihre Zukunft. 29 Prozent der Mädchen bzw. 9 Prozent der Burschen haben häufig Angst. 22 Prozent der Mädchen und 10 Prozent der Burschen leiden gemäß WHO-5 Auswertungsmanual möglicherweise an einer depressiven Verstimmung oder Depression. Die gute Nachricht ist, dass eine Mehrzahl der Schüler*innen nach wie vor mit ihrem Leben zufrieden ist.

Im Bereich des legalen Suchtmittelkonsums gibt es ebenfalls erfreuliche Nachrichten. Die Anzahl der Zigaretten rauchenden Schüler*innen geht seit Jahren zurück. Dafür finden andere Nikotinprodukte wie E-Zigaretten, Wasserpfeifen, Snus oder Nikotinsäckchen Abnehmer*innen unter den Jugendlichen. Auch die Anzahl der Schüler*innen, die mindestens ein Mal wöchentlich Alkohol konsumieren, ist seit 2010 rückläufig.

Beim Konsum von Cannabis zeigt sich allerdings eine Steigerung im Vergleich zu 2018. Im Bereich der Internetnutzung zeigen 10 Prozent der Mädchen und 7 Prozent der Burschen eine problematische Nutzung von sozialen Medien. Der Einfluss eines medial vermittelten Körperbilds von Schlankheit zeigt sich daran, dass sich 40 Prozent der Mädchen und 30 Prozent der Burschen als zu dick empfinden. Bereiche mit denen sich die Suchtprävention in Zukunft verstärkt beschäftigen wird.

Für die im Schuljahr 2021/22 durchgeführte Studie wurden Daten von 7.099 Schüler*innen im Alter von ungefähr 11 bis 17 Jahren, aus allen Bundesländern befragt.
