Studie über suchtgefährdete Internetnutzung

Rund ein Drittel der steirischen Schüler*innen und neun Prozent der Erwachsenen sind in Bezug auf ihr Internetverhalten suchtgefährdet, zeigen die Ergebnisse einer aktuellen Studie.

Trend klar erkennbar

Durch eine vom Gesundheitsfonds Steiermark beauftragte Studie (durchgeführt von X-Sample) liegen erstmals für die Steiermark Zahlen für die suchtgefährdete Internetnutzung bei Schüler*innen und Erwachsenen vor. 32 Prozent der Schüler*innen und neun Prozent der Erwachsenen sind in Bezug auf ihr Internetverhalten suchtgefährdet. Dies ist keineswegs gleichzusetzen mit „suchtkrank“, zeigt aber deutlich, dass es Maßnahmen benötigt, um eine verantwortungsvolle Internetnutzung zu fördern und das Risiko einer Suchtentwicklung zu reduzieren.

Im kommenden Jahr wird ein intersektorales Expert*innengremium für die Handlungsfelder Prävention, Früherkennung/-intervention und Behandlung einen Aktionsplan mit konkreten Maßnahmen ausarbeiten. Bereits bestehende Angebote von VIVID zur Förderung der Medienkompetenz finden Sie hier.

Im Jahr 2022 wurden rund 3.000 steirische Schüler*innen ab der siebten Schulstufe aller Schultypen und 800 Erwachsene befragt, wie sie digitale Geräte und das Internet nutzen. Hier einige zentralen Ergebnisse der repräsentativen Erhebungen:

  • Bei 32 Prozent der Schüler*innen zeigen sich anwendungsübergreifend (Soziale Netzwerke, Spiele etc.) Suchtsymptome, die darauf hinweisen, dass sie suchtgefährdet sind. Signifikant höhere Prävalenzen zeigen sich bei schlechterer psychischer Gesamtkonstitution, stärkerer Neigung zur Langeweile, Angstproblematik, Schlafbeschwerden und höheren Tages- und Nachtnutzungsdauer. Ob diese Merkmale eine Folge des hohen Internetkonsums sind oder der hohe Internetkonsum z. B. eine schlechte psychische Gesamtkonstitution fördert, lässt sich aus der Studie nicht ableiten.
  • 59 Prozent der Jugendlichen nutzen ihr Smartphone auch nach Mitternacht (an zumindest einem von fünf Abenden, denen ein Schultag folgt). Bei 18 Prozent zeigen sich klinisch relevante Schlafprobleme.
  • Rund zwei Drittel haben das Smartphone während des Schlafens unmittelbar neben sich. Bei 19 Prozent ist es im Empfangsmodus und nicht auf lautlos.
  • Bei neun Prozent der Erwachsenen zeigen sich anwendungsübergreifend Suchtsymptome, die darauf hinweisen, dass sie suchtgefährdet sind. Signifikant höhere Prävalenzen zeigen sich bei jüngeren Personen, Personen, bei denen Soziale Medien die dominante Internetanwendung darstellen, stärkerer Neigung zur Langeweile und höheren Nutzungsdauern.
  • 10 Prozent der Erwachsenen machen sich aufgrund ihres Nutzungsausmaßes manchmal Sorgen, 4 Prozent haben aus diesem Grunde schon überlegt, Hilfe zu holen und 3 Prozent nahmen oder nehmen deswegen eine Beratung in Anspruch.
