Verantwortungsvoller Umgang mit Alkohol

Egal ob Familienfest, Firmenfeier oder Geschäftsessen – Bier, Wein und Schnaps sind fast immer dabei. In einer Kultur in der Alkoholkonsum Bestandteil des gesellschaftlichen Lebens ist, ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Kinder schon früh neugierig werden, was es mit diesen Getränken auf sich hat.

Alkohol als Genussmittel zu verstehen und zu lernen, damit verantwortungsvoll umzugehen, ohne sich oder andere zu gefährden, gehört zu den Entwicklungsaufgaben von jungen Menschen. Wir als Erwachsene haben die Aufgabe Kinder und Jugendliche auf dem Weg dahin zu begleiten. Durch unser Verhalten, durch klare Regeln und durch Gespräche, können wir viel dazu beitragen, dass sie diese Aufgabe meistern. Ab 16 Jahren dürfen steirische Jugendliche Bier und Wein trinken. Gebrannter Alkohol darf erst ab 18 Jahren getrunken werden. Das Schutzalter ist bundesweit einheitlich geregelt. Da der Jugendschutz aber Angelegenheit der Bundesländer ist, gibt es im Detail noch unterschiedliche Regelungen. Studien zeigen, dass Jugendliche wesentlich empfindlicher auf Alkohol reagieren als Erwachsene, da die körperliche Entwicklung noch nicht abgeschlossen ist. Außerdem ist bei jungen Menschen das Gehirn noch nicht fertig entwickelt und reagiert ebenfalls empfindlicher auf übermäßigen Alkoholkonsum. Durch das meist geringere Körpergewicht werden Jugendliche schneller betrunken. Der Alkohol wird langsamer abgebaut. Mädchen werden noch schneller betrunken, weil Frauen mehr Körperfett haben.

Zahl konsumierender Jugendlichen rückläufig

Dass problematischer Alkoholkonsum in Österreich nicht vorrangig eine Domäne der Jugend ist – auch wenn dies in der öffentlichen Diskussion oftmals so dargestellt wird – zeigt folgendes Ergebnis: Der höchste Anteil an Personen mit problematischem Alkoholkonsum ist in der Altersgruppe der 50- bis 60-Jährigen zu finden (19%).

Auch wenn in Medien häufig der Eindruck vermittelt wird, dass junge Menschen immer mehr Alkohol trinken, zeigen Studien ein anderes Bild: Während die durchschnittliche Konsummenge der Erwachsenen in Österreich in den letzten 10 Jahren weitestgehend stabil ist, ist hingegen bei den Schüler*innen ein eindeutiger Rückgang festzustellen.

Laut den Ergebnissen einer repräsentativen Befragung von österreichischen Schüler*innen (2018) trinken 21% der 15-Jährigen mindestens einmal pro Woche Alkohol. Bei den 17-Jährigen sind es 40%. Der Konsum von alkoholischen Getränken mindestens einmal pro Woche nimmt mit dem Alter deutlich zu. In beiden Altersgruppen trinken Burschen häufiger als Mädchen. Ein Drittel der 15-Jährigen hat noch nie Alkohol getrunken.

Rauschtrinken geht häufig mit anderem Risikoverhalten einher. Somit steht beim Rauschtrinken nicht nur der Schaden für die konsumierende Person im Fokus, sondern auch die negativen Auswirkungen auf unbeteiligte Dritte (wie z. B. durch erhöhtes Unfallrisiko oder Verwicklung in Gewaltsituationen). Dies gilt natürlich nicht nur für Jugendliche. Wenn Jugendliche regelmäßig viel Alkohol trinken, ist das meist nur eine Phase, die vorüber geht. Nur selten ist es ein Warnsignal für eine beginnende Suchterkrankung. Damit Alkoholkonsum nicht problematisch wird oder zu einem Suchtverhalten führt, braucht es eine gute Gesprächsbasis, klare Regeln und Erwachsene, die Jugendlichen ein Vorbild sind. Wie beim allgemeinen Alkoholkonsum werden auch die Rauscherfahrungen ab dem Alter von 15 Jahren deutlich häufiger. Bei den Rauscherfahrungen kommt es zu einer Angleichung der Geschlechterrollen. Mädchen betrinken sich gleich häufig wie Burschen. Rund ein Viertel der 15- und 17-jährigen Schüler*innen waren im letzten Monat 3 mal oder öfter betrunken.
