Glücksspiel

Grundsätzlich ist Spielen ein menschliches Bedürfnis. Beim Glückspiel können einige Menschen jedoch ein riskantes oder süchtiges Spielverhalten entwickeln, das gravierende negative Konsequenzen für die finanzielle Situation, die Familie und den Beruf nach sich ziehen kann.

Wenn Spiel zur Sucht wird

Unter Glücksspiel versteht man ein Spiel, bei dem die Entscheidung über das Spielergebnis ausschließlich oder vorwiegend vom Zufall abhängt. Von Glücksspiel kann man süchtig werden. Betroffene verspielen dann sehr viel Geld mit verheerenden finanziellen und sozialen Folgen für sich und ihre Familien. Die Glücksspielformen mit den meisten Spieler*innen mit Spielproblemen sind Glücksspielautomaten, Sportwetten und klassische Kasinospiele wie Roulette, Poker und Black Jack.

Laut Steiermärkischem Jugendgesetz ist bis zum vollendeten 18. Lebensjahr die Benützung von Geldspielapparaten und die Teilnahme an Glücksspielen und Sportwetten jeder Art untersagt, ausgenommen sind Glücksspiele wie Zahlenlotto, Klassenlotterie, Lotto, Sporttoto, Tombola, Glückshafen etc.

Suchtmerkmale

Nach dem internationalen Klassifikationssystem für Erkrankungen (DSM-V) drückt sich pathologisches Glücksspielen in mindestens vier der folgenden Merkmale aus:

  • Starkes Eingenommensein vom Glücksspielen (z. B. Nachdenken über Möglichkeiten, Geld zum Spielen zu beschaffen)
  • Erhöhung der Einsätze, um die gewünschte Erregung zu erreichen
  • Unruhe und Reizbarkeit bei dem Versuch, das Glücksspielen einzuschränken oder aufzugeben
  • Wiederholt gescheiterte Versuche, das Glücksspielen einzuschränken oder aufzugeben
  • Häufiges Glücksspielen in belastenden Gefühlszuständen, (z. B. Hilflosigkeit, Schuldgefühlen, Angst, depressiver Stimmung)
  • Lügen gegenüber sozialen Bezugspersonen, um das Glücksspielverhalten zu vertuschen
  • Versuch, durch wiederholtes Glücksspielen frühere Geldverluste auszugleichen (dem Verlust „hinterherjagen“)
  • Verlassen auf andere Personen, um die glücksspielbedingte finanzielle Notlage zu überwinden
  • Gefährdung oder Verlust wichtiger Beziehungen, des Arbeitsplatzes, von Ausbildungs- oder Aufstiegschancen aufgrund des Glücksspielens

Glücksspielsucht in Österreich

Laut der Studie „Glücksspielverhalten und Glücksspielprobleme in Österreich“ (Kalke et al. 2015) verfügen insgesamt 1,1% aller Österreicher*innen (14 bis 65 Jahre) über ein problematisches oder pathologisches Spielerverhalten. Das sind etwa 64.000 Personen.

Arbeitslosigkeit und enge Familienangehörige, die selbst von glücksspielbedingten Problemen betroffen sind, sind die wichtigsten Faktoren, die das Risiko für Glücksspielprobleme erhöhen. Weitere Risikofaktoren sind Alter bis 30 Jahre, männliches Geschlecht, niedriges Bildungsniveau, geringes Haushaltsnettoeinkommen und Migrationshintergrund.

Die ARGE Suchtvorbeugung hat in einem Positionspapier 10 Punkte zusammengefasst, die umgesetzt werden sollten, um Risiken und Probleme im Zusammenhang mit Glücksspiel und Sportwetten weitgehend zu entschärfen.
