Ursachen für eine Suchtentwicklung

Um Sucht vorbeugen zu können, ist es wichtig zu verstehen wie es zu einer Abhängigkeit kommen kann. Der Weg in die Sucht ist ein langer Prozess und eingebettet in viele Ursachen und Bedingungen.

Suchtbegünstigende Faktoren

Der Prozess der Suchtentwicklung beginnt vielfach unbemerkt mit dem Ausweichen vor unangenehmen Situationen. Es gibt jedoch nie die eine Ursache, warum ein Mensch süchtig wird und der andere nicht. Hinter jeder Suchtentwicklung steckt ein kompliziertes Miteinander von verschiedensten suchtbegünstigenden Faktoren.

Deshalb befasst sich die Suchtprävention mit den Ursachen und leitet daraus die notwendigen Maßnahmen ab. Sogenannte Risikofaktoren stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt. Das Vorliegen eines oder mehrerer Faktoren muss nicht zwingend eine Sucht zur Folge haben. Aber es deutet auf eine höhere Wahrscheinlichkeit hin, im Laufe des Lebens eine Abhängigkeit zu entwickeln.

Risikofaktoren lassen sich auf der Ebene der Person, dem sozialen Umfeld und der Substanz bzw. dem Verhalten finden. Sie sind aber nicht einfach als negative, zu vermeidende Faktoren zu sehen, sondern können auch als Herausforderungen, deren Bewältigung zu weiteren Entwicklungsschritten führen, gesehen werden.

Jede Person kommt mit individuellen körperlichen und Persönlichkeitseigenschaften auf die Welt. Ausgehend von dieser Basis werden Menschen in den ersten Lebensjahren sehr stark in der Familie geprägt und der Grundstein für Werte, Einstellungen und Verhaltensweisen gelegt. Diese Lernerfahrungen prägen stark wie Menschen im späteren Leben kommunizieren, mit Problemen, Stress und Konflikten umgehen und wie ausgeprägt ihr Selbstbewusstsein und ihre Selbstregulationsfähigkeit sind. All diese Eigenschaften können in kritischen Lebenssituationen Faktoren sein, die vor einer Sucht schützen, aber auch Risikofaktoren für eine Suchtentwicklung darstellen.

Soziales Umfeld und Gesellschaft

Das soziale Umfeld und die Gesellschaft spielen ebenfalls eine entscheidende Rolle. Beispielsweise können Werte, wie Leistung und Wettbewerb, die unsere Gesellschaft prägen unter bestimmten Bedingungen besondere Risiken für Menschen darstellen, süchtiges Verhalten zu entwickeln. So können Menschen, die massiven Leistungsanforderungen in Schule oder Beruf ausgesetzt sind, diesem mit dem Konsum von Substanzen oder Verhaltensweisen begegnen. Auch schwierige wirtschaftliche Verhältnisse und damit verbundene mangelnde Zukunftsperspektiven und Zukunftsängste im Arbeits- und Ausbildungsbereich können als Ursache für die Entstehung von Suchtverhalten herangezogen werden.

Suchtmittel bzw. Suchtverhalten

Verschiedene psychoaktive Substanzen und Verhaltensweisen haben unterschiedliches Suchtpotential. So werden zum Beispiel Glücksspielautomaten als gefährlicher eingestuft als klassische Kasinospiele wie Roulette, weil die einzelnen Spiele am Automaten schnell ablaufen. Die pharmakologische Eigenschaft einer Substanz oder die Art und Häufigkeit des Konsums, also wie oft, wie lange und wie viel konsumiert wird, wirken sich auf eine mögliche Suchtentstehung aus.

Die Entstehung von Sucht hängt von verschiedenen Faktoren ab.

Suchtprävention erfordert das Suchen von Lösungen dort, wo die Ursachen für das Suchtverhalten liegen – bei den Schwierigkeiten im Alltag, bei der Persönlichkeit des Menschen, bei den Einflüssen aus der Gesellschaft und bei den Suchtmitteln.

Eine Möglichkeit Sucht vorzubeugen ist das bewusste Verringern von Risikofaktoren. Ein weiteres wichtiges Instrument der Suchtprävention ist die Förderung von Schutzfaktoren. Schutzfaktoren können ebenfalls auf diesen drei Ebenen der Person, dem sozialen Umfeld/der Gesellschaft und der Substanz/Verhaltensweise angesiedelt sein. Sie helfen uns dabei Risikofaktoren abzufedern und suchtfrei durchs Leben zu gehen.
