Nikotinbeutel haben einen hohen Nikotingehalt

Nikotinbeutel beinhalten mitunter deutlich mehr Nikotin als konventionelle Zigaretten. Auch schädliche Nitrosamine wurden entdeckt.

Irreführende Bezeichnungen von "easy" über "ultra" bis "brutal"

Nikotinbeutel enthalten sehr unterschiedlich viel Nikotin. Für Konsument*innen ist der Nikotingehalt nicht nachvollziehbar. Das ergab eine chemische Studie. Dafür wurden 44 Sorten Nikotinbeutel von 20 verschiedenen Herstellern analysiert.

Knapp vier Mal so viel Nikotin wie Zigarette

Der Nikotingehalt der Produkte reichte von 1,8 bis 47,5 Milligramm je Beutel. Das ist knapp bis zu vier Mal so viel wie die konventionelle Zigarette. Diese enthält laut Deutschem Krebsforschungszentrum zwischen 7 und 13 Milligramm Nikotin, wovon beim Rauchen rund ein bis zwei Milligramm pro Zigarette aufgenommen werden.

E-Zigaretten dürfen in der Europäischen Union maximal 20 Milligramm Nikotin je Milliliter Liquid enthalten. Für Nikotinbeutel gibt es bisher keine Produktregulierung, weder in der Europäischen Union noch in Österreich.

Unklare Bezeichnungen zur Nikotinstärke

Die meisten untersuchten Nikotinbeutel hatten unklare und irreführende Angaben zur Nikotinstärke. Nur rund ein Drittel hatte den Nikotingehalt in Milligramm pro Beutel auf der Verpackung deklariert.

Rund zwei Drittel verwendeten irreführende Bezeichnungen, etwa in Form einer nicht näher definierten Skala. Andere Marken gaben die Nikotinstärke mit unklaren Begriffen wie „easy“, „medium“ oder „strong“ an. Auch Bezeichnungen wie „ultra“, „extreme“, „danger strong“ oder „brutal“ fanden die Autor*innen. Für Konsument*innen ist der Nikotingehalt in den meisten Fällen nicht nachvollziehbar.

Krebserregende Stoffe nachgewiesen

Auch entdeckt wurden sogenannte „Tabakspezifische Nitrosamine“ (TNSA). Diese bilden sich neben weiteren Giftstoffen unter anderem während der Fermentation des Tabaks. Sie sind als „Kanzerogene“ eingestuft, also als Stoffe, die Krebs erzeugen können. Nikotinbeutel enthalten keinen Tabak, aber Nikotin. Das Nikotin wird jedoch meist aus Tabak gewonnen, daher können auch Nikotinbeutel diese gefährlichen Substanzen enthalten.

In der vorliegenden Untersuchung war der Gehalt tabakspezifischer Nitrosamine zwar deutlich niedriger als in konventionellen Zigaretten, aber sie wurden in der Mehrzahl der Proben eindeutig nachgewiesen: 26 der 44 Arten von Nikotinbeuteln enthielten tabakspezifische Nitrosamine. Auch dies wurde von den Autor*innen als besorgniserregend eingestuft.
