Macht Nikotin „nur“ süchtig oder kann es auch krank machen? Diese Frage stellt sich, weil immer mehr Produkte mit Nikotin, aber ohne Tabak angeboten werden.

Nikotin auch ohne Tabak gesundheitsgefährdend

Forschungen zeigen: Nikotin ist auch ohne Tabak gefährlich für die Gesundheit. Es ist ein Nervengift. Der Konsum von Nikotin kann zu Vergiftungserscheinungen von Übelkeit und Schwindel über Kopfschmerzen, Durchfall und Erbrechen führen. Starke Nikotinvergiftungen haben Symptome wie verminderte Herzfrequenz und Atemnot.

Von Vergiftungen bis Krebs: Nikotin gefährdet die Gesundheit

Darüber hinaus bewirkt der Konsum Nikotin, dass der Körper ständig entgiften muss. Das führt zu gedämpftem Appetit, schlechterer Durchblutung und Absinken der Hauttemperatur.

Außerdem führt Nikotin zu einer Verengung der Blutgefäße, was den Blutdruck ansteigen lässt und die Gefahr für Thrombosen erhöht.

Die World Heart Federation verweist darauf, dass Nikotinkonsum laut Studien mit koronaren Herzkrankheiten, Herzinsuffizienz, Thrombose und Herzrhythmus-Störungen wie Vorhofflimmern in Verbindung gebracht wird.

Nikotin steht im Verdacht, Krebs auszulösen und Krebs zu fördern. Nikotin verlängert die Lebensdauer von Krebszellen und regt sie zur Wanderung im Körper (Metastasen) an. Versuche mit Tumorzellen weisen auch darauf hin, dass Nikotin die Wirkung von Therapien vermindert. Chemotherapie wirkt demnach schlechter, wenn Nikotin konsumiert wird.

Als ältestes der „neuen“ Nikotinprodukte ist die E-Zigarette bisher am besten erforscht. Auch ohne Tabak erhöht der Konsum der E-Zigarette das Risiko für Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen und manche Lungenerkrankungen deutlich. E-Zigaretten können ähnliche mit Krebs assoziierte Zellveränderungen wie konventionelle Zigaretten erzeugen, zeigt eine Studie auf.
