Rauchende für Rauchverbot

Was denken Rauchende über das nahende Rauchverbot in der Gastronomie? Das wollte VIVID – Fachstelle für Suchtprävention wissen, einige Monate, bevor das Rauchverbot in Österreich nach einer wechselvollen Geschichte und einer schweren Geburt in Kraft trat.

Sogar unter Rauchenden Mehrheit für Rauchfreiheit

Eine Befragung in Kooperation mit dem Institut für Soziologie der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz ergab: 57,9 Prozent befürworten ein Rauchverbot in allen Innenräumen der Gastronomie, während sich 42,1 Prozent dagegen aussprechen. Selbst unter Rauchenden ist demnach die Mehrheit für rauchfreie Gastronomie. 33,1 Prozent sind sogar „uneingeschränkt dafür“.

Rauchende Frauen sind eher für ein Rauchverbot als rauchende Männer: Während die Hälfte (51,0 Prozent) der befragten männlichen Raucher dafür eintritt, sind es fast zwei Drittel (65,9 Prozent) der rauchenden Frauen. Insgesamt gilt: Je höher der Ausbildungsgrad der Befragten, desto eher befürworten sie die rauchfreie Gastronomie. Unterteilt nach der Anzahl der täglich gerauchten Zigaretten, sind wenig Rauchende eher für das Rauchverbot als viel Rauchende. Auffällig ist dabei, dass Viel-Rauchende (täglich mehr als eine Packung) entweder „dagegen“ (52,9 Prozent) oder „uneingeschränkt dafür“ (35,3 Prozent) sind. Ein „eher dafür“ oder „eher nicht dafür“ gibt es in dieser Gruppe kaum. Dies spiegelt andere Befragungen wider, die zeigen, dass viele Rauchende aufhören wollen. Offenbar wird hier das Rauchverbot als Unterstützung und Selbstschutz gesehen.

Repräsentativ befragt wurden 182 Rauchende, die entsprechend Alter, Geschlecht und höchster abgeschlossener Ausbildung die Bevölkerung der Steiermark mit Fokus auf größere Städte widerspiegeln. Die Umfrage fand von Juni bis September 2019 statt.

Rauchende sehen Rauchverbot als Selbstschutz

Jene, die für rauchfreie Gastronomie eintreten, nannten als Gründe vor allem den Schutz von Nichtrauchenden. Aber auch für sie selbst sei das Rauchverbot eine Barriere, die durchaus positiv sei, da ihnen rauchfreie Gastronomie ermögliche, weniger zu rauchen. Angeführt wurde auch die Erfahrung, dass bisherige Mischlösungen wegen offener Türen nicht funktionieren und inkonsequent seien. Es wurde jedoch auch auf die Möglichkeit hingewiesen, dass es für manche Lokale (etwa Bars) Ausnahmen geben könnte.

Jene, die gegen rauchfreie Gastronomie eintreten, nannten als Gründe vor allem die persönliche Freiheit. Ein Rauchverbot werde als Bevormundung wahrgenommen. Auch Sorge um die wirtschaftliche Situation der Gastwirte und deren Selbstbestimmung wurden betont.

Befragungen aus anderen Ländern zeigen, dass die Zustimmung zum Rauchverbot nach dessen Einführung steigt. „Viele Menschen können sich nicht vorstellen, wie es wird“, erklärt Claudia Kahr, Geschäftsführerin von VIVID – Fachstelle für Suchtprävention. „Nach einer Umstellungsphase haben sich Menschen in anderen Ländern rasch an das Rauchverbot gewöhnt und wollen es großteils nicht mehr missen.“ Seitens der Suchtprävention sei man jedenfalls sehr erfreut über das nach jahrelanger Diskussion und mehreren Gesetzesänderungen in Kraft tretende Rauchverbot.
