Rückfälle durch E-Zigarette und Tabakerhitzer

Können E-Zigarette und Tabakerhitzer dazu anregen, wieder mit dem Rauchen von herkömmlichen Tabakzigaretten zu beginnen? Ja. Ex-Rauchende scheinen durch den Konsum der neuen Produkte dazu angeregt zu werden, auch wieder zur herkömmlichen Zigarette zu greifen.

Erhöhte Wahrscheinlichkeit, auch wieder mit Tabakzigarette zu beginnen

Mit dem Rauchen aufzuhören, ist für manche Menschen schwierig. Doch rund ein Viertel der österreichischen Bevölkerung hat es bereits geschafft. Wie ist es nun, wenn man nach der Entwöhnung von herkömmlicher Zigarette zu einem der neuen Produkte greift, der E-Zigarette etwa oder dem Tabakerhitzer? Bleibt es dann bei den neuen Produkten? Oder erleidet man auch eher wieder einen Rückfall zur herkömmlichen Zigarette?

Ex-Rauchende: Rückfall durch E-Zigaretten

Ex-Rauchende sollten mit E-Zigaretten besonders vorsichtig sein. Denn sie erhöhen die Wahrscheinlichkeit für einen Rückfall ins Rauchen, zeigt ein Review: Wer schon ganz mit dem Rauchen aufgehört hatte, aber den Konsum von E-Zigaretten begann, hatte ein doppelt so hohes Risiko, auch wieder Raucher*in von Tabakzigaretten zu werden. E-Zigarette war ein typisches Wiedereinstiegsprodukt für Ex-Rauchende.

Ähnliche Daten sind für Tabakerhitzer verfügbar. Wer es schon geschafft hatte, mit dem Rauchen aufzuhören, riskiert mit dem Tabakerhitzer einen Rückfall.

Jeder Achte fing nach Tabakerhitzer auch wieder mit Zigarette an

So zeigt eine Studie an 18- bis 73-jährigen Ex-Rauchenden, die seit mindestens einem Jahr rauchfrei waren: Der Konsum von Tabakerhitzer (HTP) führte gegenüber Nikotin-Abstinenten mit 2,8-fach erhöhter Wahrscheinlichkeit auch zum Rauchen von herkömmlicher Verbrennungszigarette.

Während 1,7 Prozent der Nicht-HTP-Raucher*innen binnen eines Jahres mit dem Rauchen von Tabakzigaretten begannen, war dies bei 12,7 Prozent der HTP-Raucher*innen der Fall. Damit begann nach dem Rauchen von Tabakerhitzern mehr als jeder achte Ex-Rauchende auch wieder mit dem Rauchen von herkömmlichen Verbrennungszigaretten, während das bei den Nikotin-Abstinenten nur bei jedem 59. der Fall war. Das Risiko für einen Rückfall auch zur Verbrennungszigarette war demnach signifikant erhöht.

Besonderes Risiko für junge Erwachsene

Bei jungen Erwachsenen ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit für einen Rückfall mit den neuen Tabak- und Nikotinprodukten besonders hoch. So zeigte eine Studie, dass Ex-Rauche

Eine Studie aus den USA ergab, dass der Konsum von E-Zigaretten in allen Altersgruppen stagniert – außer bei Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen. In der Altersgruppe der jungen Erwachsenen fingen besonders häufig zwei Gruppen mit E-Zigarette an: die Nichtrauchenden und jene, die bereits ganz mit dem Rauchen aufgehört hatten und durch die E-Zigarette rückfällig wurden. Bei jungen Erwachsenen wurden demnach ein besonders hoher Anteil an Rückfällen in den Nikotinkonsum durch die E-Zigarette verzeichnet.

Abgesehen von der Arts des Produkts, steigt das Risiko für einen Rückfall auch mit der Möglichkeit, Tabak zu kaufen. Eine Studie zeigt: Je mehr Läden es gibt und je leichter diese erreichbar sind, desto wahrscheinlicher sind Rückfälle ins frühere Rauchverhalten.
