So funktionieren E-Zigaretten

Das „E“ in E-Zigaretten ist die Abkürzung für „elektronisch“. Denn E-Zigaretten funktionieren mit Elektrizität. Die Erhitzung erfolgt nicht durch Anzünden wir bei der klassischen Tabakzigarette, sondern durch Strom.

„E“ wie „elektronisch“

Erhitzt wird eine Flüssigkeit, welche auch „Liquid“ genannt wird. Durch Erhitzung verdampft die Flüssigkeit über einen elektrischen Vernebler. Der rauchende Mensch inhaliert diesen Dampf. Der Dampf wird auch „Aerosol“ genannt. Das Aerosol wird von rauchenden Menschen als feiner Nebel eingeatmet.

E-Zigaretten enthalten keinen Tabak. Die Flüssigkeit besteht zu bis zu 90 Prozent aus Propylenglykol. Dieses ist für den Nebeleffekt verantwortlich. Als Zusatzstoff in Kosmetika und für Nahrungsmitteln – also in oraler oder dermatologischer Aufnahme – gilt es als ungefährlich.

Beim Konsum von E-Zigaretten wird das Propylenglykol jedoch erstens mit zahlreichen Aromen sowie mit Nikotin vermischt, zweitens erhitzt und drittens über Inhalation aufgenommen. Die Auswirkungen dieser Form der Aufnahme sind wenig bekannt. Der Konsum von E-Zigarette kann negative Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit haben, wenn diese auch im Allgemeinen geringer ausfallen als durch Tabakzigarette. Auch der Passivrauch ist nicht „nichts“.

Tank oder Patrone füllen Hunderte Geschmacksrichtungen

Es gibt verschiedene Modell von E-Zigaretten. So sind sie als Einweg-Produkte oder mit Akku erhältlich. Modelle mit Akku sind derzeit die gängigsten. Sie sind teurer und für den oftmaligen Gebrauch bestimmt. Diese Mehrweg-E-Zigaretten funktionieren entweder mit Tank, in die Flüssigkeit nachgefüllt wird. Oder sie funktionieren mit Patronen (auch „Pods“ genannt), die bereits vom Hersteller vorgefüllt sind. Bei manchen E-Zigaretten simuliert eine Leuchtdiode das Glimmen der Zigarettenspitze. Viele modernere Geräte haben auch einen Regler, mit dem die Zufuhr reguliert werden kann.

Die Flüssigkeiten gibt es in unzähligen Geschmacksrichtungen, von Kirsche über Whiskey, von Vanille über Gummibärchen bis Pina Colada und Menthol. Auch das ist ein entscheidender Unterschied zur Tabakzigarette.

Manche Arten werden unter dem Namen „E-Shisha“ oder „E-Pipes“ verkauft. Dabei unterscheidet sich jedoch nur das Mundstück. Formal sind sie alle offiziell der Produktkategorie „E-Zigarette“ zuzuordnen.
